Plus, maybe today is the day the elevator is making a little too much noise for you to be comfortable taking it. If you’re able, there’s no reason why stairs should be the enemy. I say this as someone who used to hate taking the stairs anywhere. 

With regular cardio exercise, stairs become no challenge at all. There’s no need for gym membership for access to the StairMaster machine, all you need to do is find a set of stairs and start climbing up and down. Endurance is about doing a little more every day while taking time to rest and recover. Take the stairs a couple of times a week and watch how your endurance starts to improve gradually over time.

2. To Have the Strength to Carry Groceries 

There is something extremely satisfying about loading your arms up with your grocery haul and carrying in all the bags at once. This was my true indicator of fitness. Strength training, from upper body to lower body exercises, helps you develop the muscles needed for regular everyday activities.

These activities include something as simple as carrying your groceries from your car to your home. Many skills that we practice when we work out translate to an easier time doing common everyday activities.

3. To Outrun Your Friend on the Way to the Bus

Picture this, you and your friend need to make the 4 pm movie showing, and you’re late for the bus. You and your friend both book it to try and make it to the bus stop, and you’ve been training for this moment your whole life. You dash out ahead, get to the bus stop way before your friend, and you’re able to flag down the bus and get it to stop for you guys. Nice. 

Okay, not everyone’s going to be in the scenario, nor does everyone take public transportation. However, exercise can give you the ability to do something like this. It gives you the endurance you need to get yourself somewhere faster. Now, you’re not worried about getting a parking spot really close to the entrance, you feel comfortable and fit enough to park in the back and make a quick jog out of the distance.

4. To Take Your Dog on a Walk

Along the same vein of thought, you want the energy to be able to go on walks with your dog. You want to walk a couple of blocks without feeling too tired or out of breath, with enough energy to breathe and enjoy the time outdoors.

Even if you don’t have a pet, walking in and of itself is a great exercise that you can do daily. This type of low-key low-impact training translates to benefits in other areas of your life. Now you can have them all day without running out of breath, go to theme parks and enjoy yourself a little bit more, or take longer walks at the beach. The world is your oyster when you start to take fitness more seriously.

5. To Dance in the Living Room

There’s one thing I know about music, it’s that it has a profound impact on your mood. In fact, one of the simplest ways to romanticize and enjoy life more is to create a go-to playlist. Help your songs make us feel happier, so having a handy playlist for when you’re feeling down can be a simple way to boost your mood. And what does happy music make us do? Dance..

If you want the energy and endurance to dance in your living room like no one’s watching, then you need some form of exercise. This can be cardio, strength training, or even flexibility training.
